Celebrate excellence, dedication, and service within your organization through the Member Employee Recognition Awards Program. This initiative honors outstanding employees who go above and beyond in promoting safety, security, and hospitality excellence.
Program Overview
Member organizations are invited to recognize their employees or team members through this no-cost awards program. Nominations can be submitted by participating hotels, agencies, or partner organizations, and each award is presented directly by the nominating property or agency to the recipient.
Awards are designed to highlight exceptional contributions in areas such as leadership, teamwork, customer service, and community engagement. Recipients receive official recognition materials provided by the association to enhance workplace morale and reinforce a culture of appreciation.

Below are the recognition categories currently offered to member organizations. Each category is intended to spotlight a unique area of achievement:
How to Participate
Participating is simple. Member hotels or agencies can submit nominations using the online form below. All awards and materials are provided as a benefit of your annual ILSSA Boston paid membership.
Awards may be presented at staff meetings, safety briefings, or special employee events—whenever recognition is most meaningful.

Award Types and Criteria:
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
- For exceptional and distinguished performance over a sustained period.
- Recipient demonstrates consistent professionalism, integrity, and exemplary service.
- Significant contributions must advance the goals, reputation, or success of the department.
- Typically reserved for senior or long-tenured individuals who set a standard of excellence.
EXCELLENCE IN ACTION
- Recognizes a specific action or initiative that made a positive difference to an individual or community.
- The act must show compassion, leadership, or problem-solving in service to others.
- Typically awarded for single, notable incidents rather than ongoing service.
- May include community aid, conflict resolution, or public assistance beyond job expectations.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT
- Honors a career of exceptional commitment, leadership, and contribution to public safety or community service.
- Minimum years of service as defined by the organization (e.g., 20+ years).
- Recognizes long-term impact, mentorship, dedication, and legacy of positive influence.
- Recipient must embody the highest values of the organization throughout their career.
LIFESAVING AWARD
- For direct intervention or actions that directly result in saving a life.
- The recipient’s actions must have an immediate and substantial impact on the survival of another person.
- Supportive documentation (medical or witness statements) must verify the outcome.
- Can include use of CPR, emergency response, or decisive actions preventing imminent death.
MEDAL OF VALOR
- Recognizes acts of exceptional bravery or heroism in the face of danger.
- Action must involve a significant personal risk to the recipient.
- Must be performed in the line of duty and beyond normal expectations.
- The act must clearly demonstrate courage, decisiveness, and selflessness.
MERITORIOUS AWARD
- Awarded for outstanding performance or accomplishment that is above and beyond regular duties.
- Recognizes innovation, dedication, or excellence sustained over time.
- Can be granted for a single exceptional achievement or consistent high-quality service.
- Contribution must significantly enhance the mission, efficiency, or reputation of the organization.
OFFICER (or SAFETY AMBASSADOR) OF THE QUARTER
- Awarded for noteworthy performance, initiative, or professionalism within a given quarter.
- Recognizes actions, investigations, community engagement, or teamwork that stand out among peers.
- May be based on nominations, supervisor recommendation, or measurable accomplishments.
- Demonstrates consistent adherence to organizational values and conduct.
OFFICER (or SAFETY AMBASSADOR) OF THE YEAR
- Selected from among quarterly award recipients or based on cumulative outstanding performance.
- Demonstrates exceptional dedication, leadership, and service throughout the year.
- Contributes significantly to public safety, team morale, and the organization’s mission.
- Exemplifies the ideal model of professionalism, integrity, and service.
